Governmental agencies and shelters are charged with controlling the companion animal overpopulation challenge, and historically they have accomplished this by euthanizing excess companion animals. Community-wide efforts in diverse locations, have implemented creative nonlethal strategies that have dramatically lowered the number of animals going into shelters and being subsequently euthanized. In this course we investigate social change and the social entrepreneurial process using a case study involving companion animals. How did social entrepreneurs challenge traditional approaches to pet overpopulation? How did they involve various stakeholders in the community? What skills and strategies did they employ? This is a highly interactive course, which involves experiential activities and will serve as a foundation for your career by seeing how theoretical material is applied in a real world situation.
