AT 12-001_FA22: How is it that two political parties can look at the same data and come up with diametrically opposed conclusions? Why do marketers and heads of movie studios run focus groups? Do four out of five dentists really recommend this toothpaste or is something funny going on? In this course, we?ll look at some of the ways in which statistical concepts and processes can and have been used to sway feelings and behaviors in others. Using examples from marketing, psychology, healthcare, elections, and policymaking, we?ll explore how statistics can be used to support a variety of agendas and purposes. (No background in statistics is required for this course- we?re working with concepts, not numbers.)
